Travelling with a small group of like minded people on one of the guided tours of South America will give you a lifetime of enjoyable memories. Your guide will ensure that you soon feel part of the South American countries and cultures that you visit. You will learn the secrets and share the wealth of knowledge about this delightful continent that your guide has taken years to learn, but will happily share with you as you travel together. The experience of a guide coupled with their local knowledge and ability to translate every nuance, means your holiday will be just the way it’s meant to be – relaxing and invigorating – with every detail already organised.

Choosing from one of the many guided tours of South America is a safe option that provides excellent value for money and a diverse range of activities. There are also some unusual guided tour options for those with an adventurous spirit. For example, why not try a guided sightseeing tour of the Andes by bicycle? It may sound daunting, but if you’re fit and want a safe holiday with a difference, it could be just what you’re looking for. Your bike stops could include the colourful Andean village markets, the mysteries of the Incas and some spectacular downhill freewheeling. If you’re not up to biking all the way, you can always have a break in the support vehicle that will be accompanying your trip.

If biking the Andes isn’t what you’re looking for, maybe your heart will be stirred by the idea of one of the guided hiking tours of South America. One available option is a hiking tour of the Patagonia region through southern Chile and Argentina. Here you will experience stunning scenery including lakes as clear as mirrors, imposing glaciers and remote national parks. You’ll also be closer than you ever imagined to the abundant birdlife such as flamingos and condors.

Of course, many people don’t want to spend their holidays hiking or biking. If you’re one of those, you might prefer the option of one of the guided tours of South America that travels in the comfort of an air conditioned bus. There are many such tours available, all colourful, cultural and crowded with interest and excitement. You could visit a native village or the capital of the Inca empire. You could shop for handmade treasures in local markets or experience a bit of retail therapy in bustling Rio de Janeiro. You could travel across Lake Titicaca or visit Iguacu Falls in the heart of the continent. Whatever your itinerary, you can be sure of new delights every day, along with the safety and experience of your guide. You won’t regret it.

This makes Venezuela, one of the most prominent countries in South America. Travelers to Venezuela have added advantages of the having both the Caribbean Sea and North Atlantic Ocean coastlines accessible for outstanding beach activities and water sports. The bordering countries include Colombia to the west, Guyana to the east and Brazil to the south. Another, advantage of planning holidays to Venezuela is that the Caribbean island states of Aruba, the Netherlands Antilles and Trinidad and Tobago are located right off the Venezuelan coast, giving perfect edge for having multicentre holidays in the South America and the Caribbean.

The outstanding location of Venezuela in the heart of South America and in close proximity with the equator countries, has blessed it with abundant natural attractions, stunning landscapes and high biodiversity, with habitats ranging from the Andes mountains in the west to the Amazon Basin rainforest in the south, via extensive llanos plains, Caribbean coast in the center and the Orinoco River Delta in the east.

Not only that, but ecologically, Venezuela is considered among the 20 Mega-diverse countries of the planet. On an average we can say that more than 40% of the country’s national territory is covered by protected areas.

The capital city of Venezuela is Caracas. Also, it is the largest city of Venezuela. The reputation of Caracas is that of a party town. It is hot and happening, most cosmopolitan and one of the modern cities in South America. The country’s main international airport “Simon Bolivar International Airport”, locally known as Maiquetia airport is located only around 30-minute drive from Caracas to the Vargas state.

Being situated on the major sea, Venezuela is linked with North and South America by top American and European airlines offering cheap flights to Venezuela every now and then. Most top airlines seek great business opportunities in Venezuela as it is home to the world’s highest waterfalls, it is the place where the second longest river (Orinoco) in South America flows and also, Venezuela is the world’s fifth largest oil exporter. Economically, the oil reserves as well as the vast untapped natural gas reserves have always been the core producers for the country.

Holidays in Venezuela, are very rewarding as there is high ecological diversity, flora and fauna abundance, the longest coastline to the Caribbean Sea and lots of places to visit, such as buildings that are example of colonial architecture excellence, theaters, malls, art galleries, museums, parks, and delightful restaurants. The identity or trade mark of any Venezuela holiday is the “Angel Falls” (Churun Meru) in the Guiana Highlands as they are the world’s highest waterfalls and a promising location to make your holiday memorable.

Vietnam is a beautiful country where 3600km coastline, 125 beautiful beaches and many caves to be reconigned as World heritage by UNESCO, Mix culture: Cham, Asia, Vietnamese, special architecture, up and down history

Chef Anthony Bourdain once likened traveling to Vietnam to “meeting the love of your life for the first time”. Indeed there is something enticing about this country. Ecclectic and enchanting, Vietnam has inspired novelists, poets and other artisans for centuries. From the lush highlands of the Annam cordillera to the beaches of the South China Sea to the limestone karsts of Halong Bay, the diversity of Vietnam’s geography is astounding. This diversity extends to the people of Vietnam, who are represented by more than 50 ethnic groups – each with their own language and culture.

perhaps it is this diversity that has prompted other empires to conquer Vietnam. From the 111 BC until 1975 the Chinese, Mongols, French and Japanese have attempted to occupy Vietnam with varying degrees of success. The legacy of these foreign invaders can be most clearly seen in the architecture of the country. The merchant houses of Hoi An are strongly influenced by Chinese aesthetics, while the Presidential Palace is pure French.

Just as Vietnam has a long history of being conquered, it has an even longer history of overthrowing their colonizers against all odds to become the victors. Tenacity and quiet determination are characteristics that have held the Vietnamese people in good stead. Never was this more famously demonstrated than during the war against America. Yet Vietnam has crept out of the long shadows of war to become one of the world’s fastest developing economies. Since the government initiative of “doi moi” (renovation), the former centrally planned economy has bloomed into a market economy.

Nowhere is the renovated Vietnam more evident than in Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon). This bustling, exuberant city is endearing in its shamelessly entrepreneurial intentions. The sprawling metropolis of Saigon is an eclectic mix of architectural styles from colonial French to modern Bauhaus; while Ben Thanh market is a bargain hunters haven and a great place to pick up souvenirs. In contrast Hanoi is outwardly more staid and mellow. However under this apparent austerity, the city bustles with culture and history, encapsulated in ancient temples and museums. In between these two contrasting cities, lie shimmering rice fields, sugar-white beaches and ancient pagodas, providing an enormous range of holiday options.

Article by Jacob Martus

South America is one of the most unique and adventurous places to travel in the world. The unique wildlife and varied terrain make for some of the most exciting vacations available anywhere. From the Perito Moreno Glacier of Bolivia to the inspiring summit of the Mount Aconcagua in Argentina, it’s easy to see why so many people make the journey to South America.

Today, we are going to look at five natural wonders that every human being should see at least once in their life. These places are inspiring, exciting and will leave you with a lasting memory.

Igauzu Falls

One of the largest waterfalls in the world, Igauzu Falls is four times wider than Niagara and outputs nearly as much water. For a unique insight into just how amazing these falls are, when Eleanor Roosevelt first witnessed them her reply was, “Poor Niagara”. The falls are located in both Brazil and Argentina and the land surrounding them is protected by both governments. This has gone a long way to help preserve this wonderful set of waterfalls.

Perito Moreno Glacier

Located in Argentina Patagonia, the Perito Moreno glacier is one of the most sought after destinations in South America. Take a boat tour to the face of the glacier where you can get a true sense of its immense size. Or for more adventurous travelers, go trekking on top of the glacier! At the end of a guided hike on the glacier, you may even get an ice cold glass of whiskey served with the very ice you stand on.

Angel Falls

Flowing over the edge of Auyantepui mountain in Venezuela you will find the tallest waterfall in the world, Angel Falls. The water falls over 3000 feet, so high in fact that much of the water evaporates before it reaches the ground. Visiting the falls is an adventure in itself which will require you to travel by river to the base of the falls. You could also purchase a fly-by from a local pilot, but clouds often hinder views of the falls so it is not recommended.

Amazon River

Named The River Sea by some, The Amazon river is the largest river system in the world. At some points the river exceeds 100 miles across. Over a third of all the species on Earth live in the rainforest encompassing the Amazon river, and this fact alone drives many people to visit here. Witnessing the unique wildlife that call the Amazon home is an ambition of many travelers and for good reason. You may encounter such odd animals as the Amazon River Dolphin or Black Caiman. With its sorted terrain and immense size, it’s easy to see why the Amazon river made this list.

Mount Aconcagua

Considered the “Roof of the Americas”, Mount Aconcagua is the tallest mountain outside of Asia, rising an incredible 22,841 feet. Located on the border of Chile and Argentina and inside the notorious Andes mountain range, Aconcagua is a extremely popular destination for adventure seekers. Climbing the mountain is a must for any avid mountain climber because of its status on the list of seven summits (tallest mountain on each continent). If you’re truly looking for an adventure off the beaten path, you may consider attempting the climb yourself.

South America is full of natural wonders, so many in fact that it’s hard to see them all in one trip. It is easily one of the most unique continents on Earth, right in line with Africa and Asia in terms of its awe-inspiring sights.

From there you can change tack on one of your South America tours to experience the delights of vibrant Rio de Janeiro, from awesome heights to refreshing beaches.

2. If South American wildlife is something you don’t want to miss, you must fly out to the Galapagos Islands – one of the world’s most unspoilt havens for wildlife. The years without predators have left the wildlife of this stunning destination to develop into some of the most unique creatures on the planet. You can then fly on to Peru’s Tambopata National Reserve and visit the magnificent macaw. A wildlife tour wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Brazil’s Pantanal which is the world’s largest wetland area and home to 1000 bird species as well as hundreds of species of fish, mammals and reptiles.

3. South American tours also include some of the more remote destinations such as Venezuela and Colombia which are a must for the traveller who wants something different. In Venezuela, the Andes and Caribbean meet and waterfalls somersault over cliffs into the forested areas below. Remote villages and unbelievable views await the intrepid traveller in Venezuela. The delights of its neighbour Colombia include the Tayrona National Park and the amazing walled city of Cartagena among many others.

4. You can also join the fun, sun and colour of Mexico, Cuba and Guatemala. You can take in the area’s history, meet the people and experience the work of the world’s most skilled silversmiths – and that’s not to mention any of the delectable dishes, marvellous music and awesome architecture. If a rich and colourful cultural experience is alluring, this is an area where your senses will be tempted at every stop.

5. For the really energetic traveller, South America tours also include treks and bicycle journeys that give you an up close and personal experience of life in the heart of the Incan empire. You can visit lost cities, watch condors glide through canyons and marvel at the wildflowers – taking time to stop whenever you choose.

There’s something for everyone in South America – and always a reason to return again and again.

If you can name wine and travel as two of your greatest passions, you should consider combing the two and traveling to South America for a wine tour. Once a trip solely for the jet setters of the world, wine and culinary tours have grown in popularity side by side as people discover that one of the best ways to experience another culture is through its food and spirits.

As wine enthusiasts know, South America is quickly emerging as one of the most important wine centers in the world. Argentina and Chile in particular are gaining international recognition as viticulturists continue to produce award winning wines. The two best grape regions in South America are Mendoza in Argentina, and the Colchagua Valley in Chile.

Both of these areas are blessed with stunning scenery and a range of climates that naturally produce delicious grapes. High altitudes, steep hillsides, a wide range of temperatures, plenty of water, and an above average amount of annual sunshine make the grapes grown here especially complex and perfect for making high quality wines.

Mendoza is one of the most beautiful cities in Argentina with dramatic views of snow capped Andes Mountains dominating the horizon, and verdant rolling vineyards surrounding the small city. Mendoza is known primarily for its Malbec wine, but the Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo, and Chardonnay are also remarkable. Wine tasting in this picturesque Argentina countryside is a great way to spend the day and wineries here often have unique bed and breakfasts where guests can stay the night. Horseback and bike tours are popular alternative ways to travel between wineries.

The Colchagua Valley is known for its amazing robust red wines like Merlot, Cabernet, Syrah, and Carmenere. Named the wine region of the year in 2005 by Wine Enthusiast, the Colchagua Valley is a great place for an introduction to Chilean wines. Besides the amazing wines travelers can taste, the location of this valley makes it a perfect destination for combining a wine tour with a vibrant city experience. Santiago is only two hours from this wine producing valley, and the ski resorts of Chile are only three hours away.

The two countries’ regions are separated by the Andes, but flights are only 50 minutes. Many travelers are discovering that combining the wine regions of both countries into one trip is a great, unique way to explore South America while tasting some of the best wines in the world.

South America is the true land of explorers and the continent offers unrivalled opportunities to get off the beaten track and view a world that has remained unchanged and virtually untouched for centuries. This is why many people view South America as an exciting place to visit but it can be an intimidating prospect for some people. This is why South America escorted tours are very popular because a guided tour of these historic regions make such a difference to seeing everything safely.

One of the most popular countries in South America for tourists and adventurers alike has to be Peru. The Machu Picchu is one of the most famous sights in the world and scores of tourists make their way every day to this iconic landmark. If you are spending any time in Peru, a trip to Machu Picchu has to be on the agenda and the best way of taking the trip is with one of the South America escorted tours. As well as being shown the best way to reach Machu Picchu, the tour guide is likely to offer great snippets of information about the region and its history.

Although Machu Picchu is the natural tourist choice for visitors in Peru, the wildlife in the country is also a great reason to go travelling. Having the opportunity to see llamas up close in their natural environment is a once in a lifetime treat for many travellers and taking one of the South America escorted tours will allow the best views of these wonderful animals. In addition to llamas, Peru is well known for condors and seeing this bird in full flight and in its swooping majesty is a great reason to visit the country. Add in the chance to see penguins and sea-lions and it is easy to see why this country is one of the greatest for wildlife lovers.

Peru is not the only great country in South America though and Ecuador is another must visit nation in this continent. The Inca trail is one of the best tours available in this continent and all of the best South America escorted tours will incorporate this tour into their package. The sense of history that is available when retracing the steps of the Incas means that Ecuador is a natural stop off point for adventurers in South America. No matter where you go in this continent you are guaranteed of excitement and adventure but taking a tour is the best way to see the very best parts of the region.

Even if you don’t have a lot of money for your next holiday, you can still afford a luxury escorted tour in South America. Let tour operators negotiate with the hotels and transportation companies on your behalf, to bring you the best deals. If you’d rather someone else do all of your planning for you, you can save a lot of money.

Your choices are not limited. There are plenty of South America escorted tours available. You can choose from many itineraries. If you want some free time to yourself, you can simply request it from your tour guide. Some tour packages include all of your meals and activities, and some can be modified to suit your own interests and preferences.

Since there are so many beautiful places to visit in South America, you should consider a 14 day tour, at the very least. That way, you will have a chance to see more places and do more activities without feeling rushed.

Rio de Janeiro. Buenos Aires. Machu Picchu. Santiago. These are just some of the places you might want to visit on your tour. As you explore the continent, you can visit the remains of the Incan Empire; go on a sightseeing tour of the aforementioned cities; travel over the Andes; explore Machu Picchu; and go on excursions throughout the Sacred Valley. These are just a few examples of the many things you can do during your holiday.

If you’re interested in volcanoes, then you need to choose an itinerary that includes Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. You will be surrounded by towering volcanoes and spectacular scenery. As you explore this area, you will see traces of ancient civilizations and Spanish colonization, as well as the most incredible example of Mother Nature at her very best.

Another country you definitely need to visit is Peru. Most South America escorted tours include Peruvian cities and monuments. Imagine seeing floating cities, spectacular ravines, the waters of Lake Titicaca, and Machu Picchu up close! Peru is also home to exotic animals and birds such as condors and llamas.

There is plenty to see and do in Lima, the “City of Kings” and capital of Peru. During a tour of Lima, you can visit churches and monasteries dating back to the 16th century. Even though it’s a sprawling Metropolis, it still has its share of ancient sites, some of which date back thousands of years!

South America escorted tours include plenty of excursions to keep you busy! You won’t have to worry about boredom, so long as you choose the right tour package. Even though there are a lot of cities, much of the continent has been untouched for thousands of years. You will have some of the exact same views as the Spanish Conquistadors did all those years ago!

If you’re looking to enjoy a holiday outside of the usual tourist seasons and are considering somewhere like South America, you could be worried that you won’t find the great experience you’re looking for – but you shouldn’t be. The continent of South America is an excellent holiday destination and, with a climate that varies greatly from the north to the south, one that can be enjoyed all year round. This bounteous land is packed with excitement and thrilling things to do and see, from the chance to take to the waters of the Amazon to tackle the peaks of Patagonia.

On the other hand, if you’re looking for somewhere to enjoy lively nightlife as well as days on the beaches, then somewhere like Brazil could be just what you’re looking for. South America is home to such a variety of attractions that you’re sure to find somewhere to suit, no matter what your preferred holiday style.

For example, surrounded by the Caribbean, South Pacific and South Atlantic Ocean, you can rest assured that there are many fantastic beaches to enjoy in South America. Brazil’s north-eastern region is particularly good for beaches, and if you’re hoping to see a truly amazing stretch of sand then El Agua in Venezuala is a must see.

If you’re after a cooler air and some adrenaline boosting activities, then skiing in South America’s Andes mountain range could be just the thrill for you. Best enjoyed during the summer months, the slopes of Argentina and Chile are ideal for any keen snowboarders or skiers who are hoping to enjoy an active holiday.

Activities that don’t involve snow are also easy to come by, including seeing many exotic animals up close on the Galapagos Islands of Ecuador or the national park of Bolivia. If you’re a history buff, you’ll love a trek to Machu Picchu in Peru, where you’ll find ancient Incan ruins, but if it’s a party atmosphere you’re in search of then a trip to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil or Buenos Aires in Argentina is sure to satisfy.

One of the best things about South America is something that lasts the whole year – its musicality and welcoming atmosphere. The continent is home to many musical styles, but what all of the countries share is a lively spirit and the willingness to include travellers. Those booking flights to South America are sure to find a fabulous holiday waiting for them, whatever time of year they are travelling.
